- If you are lucky enough to have your folks chip in, ask them early on how much they will give/loan you. If it isn’t enough, think about getting a part-time job so you can start saving money.
- Now for the fun stuff! Research your look ?? … Keep an eye out for killer styles on Instagram.
- Your date. Have a think about who’ll be the lucky one who gets to take you to the formal.
- Start your healthy eating and exercise routine. Getting glamorous starts from the inside, out. If you eat right and exercise a little, you’ll feel a thousand times less stressed about it all and you’ll look fantastic. But please check with your health care professional before doing anything.
3 – 6 MONTHS BEFORE PROM
- Get a date. If you haven’t asked or been asked by someone you like to the formal – get onto it! Don’t leave it to the last minute.
- Book the limo now. Consider going in a group and hiring a limo so you can split the costs. If you don’t want a limo, what about a party bus, a fire engine, your Uncle’s Mac truck or a hot rod? A Ferrari is beyond cool.
- Decide on your outfit. If your dress has to be made or altered, this will take time.
- Start any beauty treatments. Your skin may go berserk getting used to facials, so it’ll need some time to get used to the attention.
- Keep up the healthy eating and exercise routine ? … You will definitely be seeing the results of all your hard work.
- Keep a check on your budget.
- Pre and Post-Formal parties. These need to be organized now so you can let everyone know that yours will be going off!
6 WEEKS BEFORE PROM
- Co-ordinating. Let your date know what colour your outfit is so he can co-ordinate his tux or suit with you. He also needs to know this to order your corsage.
- Accessorize! It’s a good idea to have your shoes, handbag and jewellery by now so there will be no need for last minute stress.
- Order his buttonhole and/or tie.
- Purchase your formal tickets ?
- Decide on your make-up and hairstyling. You might wanna get a professional make-up artist and hairstylist for this one. They know how to keep you paparazzi proof for the whole night! How luxurious to be transformed from school kid to glamorous gal in the space of an hour or two. Your teachers won’t recognize you!!!
2 WEEKS BEFORE FORMAL
- Pick up your dress and have a dress rehearsal. This is essential! Put everything on like you were going to the formal that night.
- Do the full 360 in the mirror to make sure everything is right.
- Ask your Mum and only 1 or 2 of your best friends for their opinion. I SAID ? Two!!!!
- If anything is missing or not quite right, you’ve still got time to perfect it.
- Have your hair cut and coloured.
- Confirm everything! If you’re the one who organized the transport hire, ring the limo company and confirm the date, location and time of pick-up. Collect the money from those going with you. If you’re hosting a pre or post formal party, confirm numbers so you know how many to cater for.
- Decide on your post formal outfit.
- Don’t stress it! It can all be totally overwhelming but just take some deep breaths and relax!
2 DAYS BEFORE FORMAL
- Have your final spray tan & your nails done ??
- Another dress rehearsal. If you’re nervous about your outfit, put it all on again and ask just your <um for reassurance. There is no doubt you’ll be red-carpet ready!
- Feeling stressed again? Get your iPod and go for a walk. Turn your iPhone off then have a long, relaxing bath and just chill. For relief on the go, close your eyes and take some deep cleansing breaths.
- Pack your after-party bag and drop it off where you’ll be getting changed on the night.
- Get all your waxing (like your legs, eyebrows or upper lip) done.
- Thank your folks. They have spent a lot of time, money and energy to get you here, so a ‘Thank-You’ card and some nice words about how much you appreciate them will score you some serious points!
? THE BIG DAY!
- Confirm with your date what time he’ll pick you up or where you’ll meet.
- Pick up his bottonhole. Ask your florist what is the best way to keep it fresh until your date arrives. Don’t put it in the fridge! Most household fridges are too cold and it could go mushy. YUCK! Your florist will tell you the best way to preserve it.
- Charge your iPhone and spare powerpack.
- Have a snack. I know you’ve probably been watching the carbs but you are still growing and it’s never a good idea to get light headed ‘coz of poor eating.
- Have something like a wholemeal chicken and salad sanga and some juice. It may be a long time until dinner shows up at Prom.
- Have a shower then get your make-up and hair styled. If you can’t have a shower beforehand, have a warm (but not too hot) bath after – very carefully!
- Allow yourself an hour to get dressed. You don’t want to rush and risk putting anything on backwards – that’s like the ultimate of wardrobe fails!
- It’s all about attitude! No matter what’s gone right or what’s gone wrong today, step out with confidence and smile! Remember, there will be guys looking hot & paparazzi everywhere! ?
You go girl, shine ? … it’s your Prom twelve years in the making!
